Activities

Examples of activities for scientists in service.

Examples include:

Academic Teach-in:

(1) A university in Massachusetts wants to instruct its physics students in astrophysics and does not the funding to retain a full-time astrophysicist. A RSC astrophysicist would conduct several lectures or even a full-term on astrophysics. The scientist would receive an honorarium and RSC would solicit the scientist for a donation (5% of his honorarium to RSC).

(2) A research scientist at Columbia University would like to verify his radioactive chloride flux measurements across membranes by electrophysiological measurements, but does not have the know-how and would like either to learn the technique or have an RSC electrophysiologist to perform the needed measurements. The honorariums will be set by RSC as requested by IRS.

Industrial Teach-In:

A plastics company in New Jersey wants to explore the commercial aspects of using an experimental synthetic resin in the formulation of flexible plastics. RSC scientist would study the problem and lecture on the findings. The scientist would receive an honorarium for the study and the discussion and RSC would solicit the scientist to donate 5% of his honorarium to RSC.

The Community Teach-In:

A community on Long Island wants to learn about the effects of proposed waste water treatment plant on the ecology of their beaches and waterways: or a community in Vermont is plagued with high cancer rates. Appropriate RSC scientists would study the problems and lecture on the findings. RSC would solicit each scientist for a donation to RSC, (5% of his honorarium)
